What
are Workshops?
Workshops are a great way to get your leadership team all on the
same page. My workshops emphasize non-technical competencies such
as communication, innovation, and team-building. These
important non-technical skills play a critical role in an organization's
ability to attract talent and achieve its mission.
I work with clients to design customized workshops that address
their unique needs and interests. Several modules comprise each
workshop, which I deliver via lecture, interactive discussion, case
studies, break-out group exercises, and self-assessments. This lively
mix of teaching methods keeps the material fresh and the audience
engaged. I'm certified to administer the MSCEIT Emotional Intelligence
assessment and the PCSI communication styles inventory. Workshop
fees vary according to multiple factors, including the number of
participants and the time commitment required.
Sample Workshop Modules
- Workplace Culture: What
is workplace culture, and why is everyone talking about it? Every
organization has a culture (ranging from dysfunctional to exceptional),
and that culture plays a critical role in the organization's ability
to attract talent and achieve the organization's mission. What
does a healthy culture look like, and how does it enhance performance?
How to develop a culture that enables teammates to change and/or
adapt more effectively.
- Communication: How do people
differ in their styles of communication? What are the dominant
characteristics of the Director, Presenter, Mediator, and Strategist
styles? Which one are you? How can people of one type best communicate
with people of another?
- Emotional Intelligence:
Perceiving, using, understanding, and managing emotions. Participants
may take an on-line self-assessment of Emotional Intelligence
developed by colleagues at Yale.
- Managing Talent: Recruiting, Developing,
and Retaining Top Performers: How does your organization
define and reward talent? What's the difference between training
and development? How does an "open system" attract and
retain talent? Learn why salary is the most talked about, misunderstood,
and over-rated motivator.
- Leadership: What is a leader?
What are the five different kinds of power, and which one(s) do
you possess? What's the difference between managing "up"
and managing "down," and how does 360-degree feedback
reveal these behaviors? Learn more about the importance of non-technical
competencies and why they're so essential for effective leadership.
- Change and Innovation:
What's the difference between creativity and innovation? The main
ingredient of both is change, but the end result is very different.
What roles do stress, passion, and risk play in innovation? How
do change agents help people choose change and commit to it?
- Managing Points of Contact:
What is scripting and how do organizations use it to ensure quality
client interactions? What are the most critical customer touchpoints?
What are the client's emotions and concerns at these touchpoints,
and how do they guide your organization's responses?
- Success is a Choice: What
are the characteristics of a successful organization? What does
success mean for employees? Who are the organization’s important
external constituencies (e.g., trustees, customers, neighbors),
and how do they contribute to organizational success or failure?
What constitutes a healthy relationship between each constituency
and the organization?
- Employee Contributions to Success:
What is the nature of employee contact with each constituency?
What are the possibilities? How can employees contribute to success?
What's in it for them?
